About Me
My name is John Schilling. I am a web developer and programmer
in the Las Vegas, NV area. I work mostly in Microsoft .NET technologies such as
C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, .NET Web Services, Silverlight and .NET application
programming. I am also very familiar with JavaScript, jQuery,
CSS, SQL Server 2000/2005/2008, IIS 5/6/7 and AJAX.
My passion for programming computers started when I was about 12 years old. My
parents owned an Apple computer which was very primitive compared to the
computers we have today (it used a tape deck for data storage). The computer had
a programming language called BASIC and I began to use it to write very simple
programs.
Later, in high school, I took a programming class and learned QBasic which was
installed on older Windows operating systems. I also started to write Windows
programs using Visual Basic 2.0. It was around this time when the internet
started to become popular.
After seeing websites on the internet, I wanted to learn how to create web pages
and discovered that websites are built using pages written HTML. I attended LDS
Business College in Salt Lake City, UT where I earned an Associate’s degree in
Web Development. I excelled in my studies and learned more advanced topics on my
own. The staff quickly realized my level of knowledge and the college hired me
to be their part-time computer tutor.
During my time in college, I joined the US Army Reserves in 2001. I spent 8 years
in military service and spent a year deployed in Kuwait. I was honorably
discharged in 2009 after completion of my 8 year contract.
I enjoy computers, hiking, football and spending time with my wife and three
children.
